The Headstall/Throatlatch

The main part that goes behind the horse's ears, or poll. Also, attaches under a horse's cheeks.

The Noseband

Goes behind the ears and around the nose to keep the horse from opening their mouth too wide.

The Reins

Attach to the bit and allow the rider to steer.

The Cheek Pieces

Used to attach the bit to the rest of the bridle.

The Browband

Goes across a horse's forehead under the forelock. Secures the parts that go behind the ears from separating.

The Bit

Usually made of steel, or other metals, placed in the horse's mouth that is used for steering.
